Some folks have brought up the fact that I ran as a candidate for State Treasurer in 2000, and I’d like to address the reasons for that campaign.
My decision was an act of conscience, and one that was not made lightly. I believed that Sen. McCain and his adopted daughter were unfairly attacked by a rogue operative for George Bush’s South Carolina’s primary. And I believed that Sen. McCain more closely represented my views about reforming the way government works. I ran as a McCain Reformer, and became the candidate for Missouri's State Treasurer on the Reform Party ticket.
I continue to be a reform-minded candidate --and a Republican. I attended my first Republican Convention in 1972, and went to NYC for the 2004 Republican Convention. I have supported many Republican candidates, and will proudly support John McCain in his campaign for President this fall.
