It has been a long hard journey and I have much to be grateful for.
I am grateful for all my volunteers. I am grateful for all the people who welcomed me and introduced me to their friends. I am grateful for all the considerate people who took my fundraising calls with a spirit of courtesy and generosity.
And I am especially grateful to the true Republicans who stepped in at the last minute to contradict the dirty tricks played on our campaign.
My opponent has tried to mount a whisper campaign filled with false statements and grossly misrepresented facts. The law does not require a person spreading deceitful statements via the phone to be identified - unlike with print publications, radio and TV ads. This allows cowards to hide behind a cloak of anonymity. This is the very reason why Americans lose faith in our electoral system.
Some people use dirty tricks at the last minute because they believe that the truth doesn't matter.
However, we know better. We know the truth, we vote, and we deserve better.
